Heads Up When You're Downtown!

With the change of season, and students headed back to school, Autumn is traditionally the deadliest time of year for pedestrians in Minnesota. To help make our Downtown safe, the Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) presents Heads Up! Pedestrian Safety Week beginning on Monday, September 10, 2018. The goal of this week long program is to increase safety for pedestrians within Downtown Rochester, but we also want to bring the community together for some fun activities!

Heads Up! will kick-off on Monday, September 10 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM on the Peace Plaza with a press conference featuring an overview of the program, announcement of activities and events for the week, and remarks from our supporting partners, which include the City of Rochester, the Rochester Police Department, and Olmsted County Public Health. At this press conference we are excited to unveil a glowing crosswalk that will be featured at the intersection of 1st Ave. & 3rd St. SW during the Heads Up! event week.

Other fun activities for the week include, a People Friendly Driving presentation by Olmsted County Public Health and BikeMN at the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) and the Rochester Public Library, a crosswalk march and community picnic, and you may even spot some familiar faces helping you cross second street and first avenue southwest Monday – Friday!
