Bundle up the littles and head to downtown Rochester! From illuminated themed booths to radiant activities to brilliant photo ops, Social Lights FAM JAM March 5 is a family friendly day for all. Here's a sneak preview of what fun your family could have at this new event.

Illuminated booths

Whether your kid is a fan of dragons or you want to provide them a throwback experience to your own childhood, themes from five downtown establishments will be entertain everyone of all ages! The booths will be showcased by LED panels to display their themes. Check out their kid-friendly (or non-alcoholic) beverages to keep warm! Or if you’re looking for a cool experience, check out Escape Challenge onsite for a scavenger hunt involving the themed booths.

Food and beverages

Gather ‘round for a popular aspect of FAM JAM: the build a s’mores stations by Kraus-Anderson! They supply everything needed to make these free sweet treats; all you need to do is show up. Enjoy them as either a pre-dinner snack or an after-meal dessert because The Duck Truck by Bleu Duck Kitchen will be onsite with a vast kid-friendly menu (like mac & cheese, chicken tenders and fries, plain hamburger or hotdog) for purchase. If the grandparents are bringing the kids, get them sugared up with B-Lo Zero Sno-Cones and Mini Donuts…we won’t tell where kiddos got hyped up if you won’t! To wash it all down is Cafe Steam offering delicious coffee and other beverages.

Radiant fun

Turn on the fun, literally, with so many illuminated activities to enjoy at FAM JAM! Let kids' creativity shine with the giant interactive Lite Brite™. Make things brighter by challenging family to a game of jumbo Jenga™, playing glow-in-the-dark tic-tac-toe with friends, or engaging with things like LED hula hoops, jump ropes, or Skip It™. Shoot for the stars (or hoops) with the Blacklight Basketball experience (even Rockie, the University of Minnesota Rochester’s mascot, will be there to cheer you on)! Light up Peace Plaza with your dance moves by taking part in the hip hop performance and dance lesson starting at 2 p.m. or simply moving to the grooves provided by the live DJ.

Say cheese! Photo ops

Capture the family fun with one of the photo opportunities at Social Lights FAM JAM! As you and your kids enter the event, a large-scale photo booth thanks to Altra Federal Credit Union is there as the perfect backdrop. Or there are the giant Social Lights letters and Wall of Lights that are sure to impress those seeing it on your socials.

COVID-19 precautions

The Rochester Downtown Alliance is following state and Olmsted County Public Health guidance around COVID-19. We will:

Recommend masks at the event.
Have hand sanitizing stations throughout the event.
Have designated areas to encourage physical distancing.
Exclude indoor components of past events like the warming tent/igloo.
Implement regular cleaning and sanitizing of event areas.
