What is Roller Disco?

While the warm summer days may be over, a new downtown Rochester event is just getting started to highlight a throwback and a comeback experience.

About Roller Disco:

High-energy music, skate rentals, party lighting, and a disco ball are all features reminiscent of indoor roller rinks of days gone by. During the pandemic, roller skating made a resurgence and is now making its way to Rochester.

On October 9-10, Roller Disco presented by the Rochester Downtown Alliance and Destination Medical Center will transform this town’s beloved Peace Plaza into an outdoor roller-skating rink for a shiny new, family-friendly event.

The temporary outdoor roller rink has been featured at national events like Coachella and is the first-of-its-kind experience in Minnesota.

Schedule of events:

Roller Disco is groovy fun for all ages including teens, adults, and families. Throughout the event experience, everyone will enjoy a 3-D photo booth, free skate rentals, a selection of curated vendors, and branded merchandise for sale. View or download a Roller Disco map here.

An open skate teen time will be from 2 to 6 p.m. October 9 that will feature DJ Supafly. From 6:30 to 10 p.m. is the evening experience that includes DJ D.I.M.E. Families can skate during a dedicated day October 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to the jams provided by DJ Laidee P.

Haven’t skated in a while? No problem! The Med City Roller Derby team will provide a basic skating techniques demonstration during each dedicated time mentioned above.

The RDA staff would like to thank the following partners for believing in the inaugural Roller Disco: presenting partner, Destination Medical Center, media partners Townsquare Media and KTTC TV, and event partners Think Bank, The Berkman, Olmsted Medical Center, Winona State University, Rochester, and Experience Rochester.
