Check out this movie preview blog to find out all the activities, food, beverages, and other fun to make it the time of your life at Movies in the Park presented by the Rochester Downtown Alliance and Altra Federal Credit Union!

"Dirty Dancing" synopsis and rating

“That was the summer of 1963, when everybody called me Baby and it didn’t occur to me to mind.” -Baby
It’s a famous line from this season’s Movies in the Park people’s choice film and sets the scene for “Dirty Dancing.” Frances “Baby” Houseman and her family are spending a summer vacation at Kellerman’s resort.  Though it seems Baby’s life is planned out by studying economics and going into the Peace Corps, things change when she meets dance instructor Johnny Castle. Romance and dancing ensue, and they both have the time of their lives. And you will too when you come to Movies in the Park featuring “Dirty Dancing,” which is rated PG-13.

Activities

“You’ll have more time for horseshoes and croquet.” - Johnny
In “Dirty Dancing,” Kellerman’s offers guests lawn games, and so do we at Movies in the Park! Try your hand at bean bags or Connect Four. Or take dance lessons like in the movie with Gretel Quinones Castro of Blue Moon Ballroom. Gretel will show Movies in the Park goers some basic salsa steps at 7:30 p.m. so when the movie’s final scene begins, we can all get up and dance! Don’t forget to snap a shot of you, your group, or significant other in front of the Movies in the Park photo booth and tag us on social media!

Food and beverages

“I carried a watermelon.” -Baby
Don’t worry: We won't make you carry a watermelon at Movies in the Park! The only thing you'll be carrying is some delicious popcorn from Carroll’s Corn; sweet or salty, whatever satisfies your craving is up to you! If Movies in the Park starts off your friends’ outing or date night, perhaps a little coffee is in order. Café Steam will be onsite with the Swayze, a sparking espresso sweetened with orange cardamom simply syrup!

“This is my dance space. This is your dance space.” - Johnny
