Marvel at the blockbuster that kicks off Movies in the Park presented by the Rochester Downtown Alliance and Altra Federal Credit Union! "Black Panther" June 12 will immerse us into the superhero experience at Central Park in downtown Rochester. We're bringing you into the hidden world of Movies in the Park and giving you a sneak preview of "Black Panther!"

"Black Panther" overview and rating

Following the death of his father, T’Challa prepares to be the new ruler of the hidden yet technologically advanced kingdom of Wakanda. He must protect his kingdom and its people from those who seek to abuse Wakanda’s most precious resource, vibranium. The movie is rated PG-13. Note to parents: there is mild profanity, a middle finger response, and a couple violent scenes.

Out of this world activities

As Wakanda is known for its vibranium, Movies in the Park is renowned for its themed activities. Did you know an alphabet was designed specifically for “Black Panther”? Based on Nsibidi, a symbol system from southeastern Africa, the Wakandan alphabet is one of the activities to recreate your name in Wakandan with scratch art paper! If you paid close attention to the movie, a scene from Shuri’s lab shows intricate, outlined murals filled in with bright colors. Come to Movies in the Park June 12 and you can make your mark on similar murals onsite!

Caffeine forever: Coffee by Cafe Steam

While it's not something you can find in Wakanda, the Latte of the Heart-Shaped Herb from Café Steam is certainly themed that could almost be! The concoction is a base of purple milk with espresso poured into it and in a glass rimmed in purple sugar. It's out of this universe!

Precious gold: Popcorn by Carroll's Corn

What's a movie experience without freshly popped popcorn? As soon as you walk in a theater, the buttery scent of deliciousness hits you. Expect the same wafting aroma as Carroll's Corn takes care of the freshly popped popcorn onsite! Bonus: refill the Movies in the Park branded bucket for just $5.
