Shining a Light on Altra Federal Credit Union, a 2019 Thursdays Downtown Partner

Thursdays Downtown is a successful community event, in part, because of its community-driven partnerships. The Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) values Altra Federal Credit Union and its support of Thursdays Downtown. In turn, we want to shine the spotlight on them! Let's learn a little more about the organization from Shawn Hauser, Altra Federal Credit Union's community relations manager!

Katie: Shawn, thanks for sitting down with me and chatting about Altra! Tell us about the organization and how long it’s been a part of the Rochester community.

Shawn: Altra was founded in 1931 as Trane Federal Credit Union and is headquartered in Onalaska, Wisconsin. We’ve been part of the Rochester Community since 2012 with two offices located at 123 16th Avenue SW and our newest office at 3833 Cascade Creek Road SW. The locations have over 104,000 members and over $1.4 billion in assets.

Katie: Congratulations on the new office! Tell us about your new location.

Shawn: Our 8,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art branch features SAM-e, Altra’s Next Generation Smart ATM that can take deposits, make withdrawals, check balances, view account history, transfer funds, make loan payments, and more! SAM-e is available in the lobby and through a 24 hour drive-up.

Katie: What excites Altra about the community or why is the organization involved in community events?

Shawn: People helping people are at the center of the Credit Union movement. Altra strives to make an impact in the communities we serve by focusing on three key areas: financial literacy, community development and cultural enrichment. To achieve this commitment, Altra supports and encourages employee volunteerism.

Katie: Why does the organization partner with the RDA for Thursdays Downtown?

Shawn: Being a good community partner is important to us. One of the ways we do that is to participate in events that are good for the community.  Thursdays Downtown is a Rochester tradition and we are excited to be a part of it. The RDA provides wonderful opportunities for families throughout the year and we look forward to our partnering with them throughout the year.

Katie: What other community events is Altra looking forward to?

Shawn: Altra will be supporting numerous community events in Rochester this year, including the Altra 5K as part of the Med City Marathon May 25-26. If you see our booth, we encourage you to stop by to play some fun games, enter to win prizes and discover how Altra can help you live your best life. We are offering a two-day Cash Camp open for youth ages 8-10 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12 and 13. The camp will educate children on key financial concepts and include a tour of the Rochester office. We are also offering a two-day Money Smart Camp open for youth ages 11-12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 9 and 10. This camp will cover topics from money basics to budgeting and basic money-growth strategies. Altra membership is not required to attend and parents may register their children here.
