Thursdays on first & 3rd Summer Music Festival

Calling all music lovers – get ready for an amazing summer!  I am happy to announce that the 2013 Thursdays on first & 3rd Music Festival lineup is better than ever thanks to a newly formed partnership with the City of Rochester Music Dept./Riverside Concerts.  This year’s festival will present a total of 48 bands every Thursday from June 6th through August 29th (note: no festival scheduled for July 4th; check out the fun at Silver Lake instead that day).  Afternoon bands perform from 4:00-5:15pm, and evening bands play from 6:30-8:30pm.  All performances are free to attend!

What I personally love most about Thursdays on first & 3rd is watching the people, especially the kids, enjoy the music.  I get a big smile on my face when I see people get up and dance to the music or clap their hands to the beat.  No matter how different we all are, music has the amazing power to bring us together in harmony to celebrate the beauty of life.  The festival also presents a wonderful opportunity to celebrate diversity through so many different genres of music, some of which I’ve never even heard of before – like “Pork Neck Boogie” or “Noir Pop/Retro”.  The overall vision of the festival is to offer a wide variety of genres to a wide variety of people.  By doing so, the festival becomes a sense of place where people can connect in a quality of life experience.¶

You may be thinking to yourself, “Well, that’s fine and dandy, but get to the good stuff – who’s performing?”  Listing out all 48 bands in this blog post would make it rather long.  So, we’ve put together an interactive page with band biographies, photos, and multi-media on the Downtown Rochester website for you to peruse each week’s lineup at your leisure.  There are so many talented bands that you won’t want to miss.  See you at the festival!
