What does being a small business owner mean to you, and why did you become an entrepreneur in the first place?

Being a business owner to me is possessing the leadership skills to empower my team and, in turn, empower the community of clients we have here in Rochester. I became an entrepreneur because I was working as a Pure Barre instructor and I was changed and inspired so much by the technique, I wanted to share that passion with others.

What are the daily challenges you face as a female entrepreneur? What has been the biggest reward?

Managing expectations can be a challenge for me as an entrepreneur. However, I get to witness growth and improvement in my staff and clients on a daily basis. Not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Being a part of someone's journey to bettering themselves is a priceless experience and the greatest reward.

How do you balance your business and your personal life?

I have had to set boundaries for "working" hours. I try to keep answering emails, phone calls, etc. within a given timeframe. This allows me some time to unplug and be present outside of a work mindset.

What one thing have you learned that has served you well over the years?

One thing I have learned is that customer service is key. When you pour into your staff and they pour back into any client coming through the door, you create an environment people want to be a part of.

Update as of March 12, 2020: For the safety and health of downtown business employees and attendees, the Rochester Downtown Alliance is postponing Ladies’ Night Out amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) concern.
