How is it Santa gets stuck on the roof of Residence of Old City Hall every year? Poor Rudolph is at a loss as his nose is so bright that guided Santa’s sleigh to Rochester. Guess this is a job for the Rochester Fire Department, who will stand ready to rescue the man with the bag at 2 p.m. While you anxiously await Santa on the ground, Here Comes Santa Claus partner Black Swan Living will provide a steaming cup of hot chocolate to keep warm.
After Santa is safely on the ground, follow him in the holly berry red fire truck toward Peace Plaza where more holiday cheer awaits! Start off by ducking inside Chateau Theatre where you can make an ornament craft, decorate a scrumptious cookie, or snap a selfie with the photo ops, all to the tunes of the season. And if there is a nip in the November air, grab a cup of hot cocoa or cider, thanks to Olmsted Medical Center. Santa’s Magical Workshop from 2:30 to 5 p.m. is sure to provide memorable yuletide fun.
Photos with Santa
The scene is set: Santa Claus will make his way into Galleria at University Square for a picture with you and yours from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m.! He will be sitting amid wintry trees and snow for a holiday card-worthy photo. And thanks to Capture Events, you can take home a 4" x 6" print-out to show it off.
Story time with Mrs. Claus
Santa can’t steal all the spotlight. The missus deserves some of the limelight, too! Mrs. Claus will be entertaining children of all ages (and parents and grandparents) with magical holiday stories throughout Here Comes Santa Claus. Story times will be at 3, 3:30, and 4 p.m. inside Chateau.
Peace Plaza tree lighting
And now the moment you have all been waiting for. The most certain way to usher in the holidays is with the annual tree lighting ceremony in Peace Plaza. Join the mayor and Santa Claus as they count down and light the beautifully illuminated holiday tree.
Altra's Kindness Tree
'Tis the season to give, and our Here Comes Santa Claus presenting partner Altra Federal Credit Union has the perfect way to do just that! Purchase (or if you are a knitter, make one) new hats, scarves, or gloves and pin them to the Kindness Tree located on the first floor of Galleria at University Square (just inside the Broadway entrance door to the left). Share a simple kindness from November 22 through December 3, and all the items will be donated to the Salvation Army for those in need of winter apparel.
Santa's Secret Snowflakes
When Santa landed on the Old City Hall roof, he whisked 12 special snowflakes into some of his favorite downtown businesses for you to find. But best hurry: Santa's Secret Snowflakes are delicate and will only last a short while. From November 26 through December 3, find all 12 snowflakes, stamp the passport you can pick up at Chateau during Here Comes Santa Claus, and turn it in by 6 p.m. December 3 for a chance to win one of four $25 gift cards to a participating business of the winner's choice.
