#MyDowntownRochMN featuring Pasquale's Neighborhood Pizzeria

In Lisha Leonard’s #MyDowntownRochMN blog, we learned about her favorite vegetarian and vegan spots Downtown. When she shared about Pasquale’s vegan cheese option, we knew we had to sit down with owner and chef, Pasquale Presa, to learn more!

Samantha: Hi Pasquale, thanks so much for talking with me today. What made you decide to open a pizza restaurant in Rochester, and specifically, Downtown?

Pasquale: We felt a true neighborhood pizzeria was missing in the heart of the SW Historic Neighborhood and DMC. We live 4 blocks away, so it’s the perfect Downtown location to be part of the nostalgic part of town just like we had back in the Bronx and in Italy. We love being part of the community and neighborhood, as families ride their bikes by and children use our games and chalk to play with, we wanted a place that welcomes anyone who walks in with the smells of their grandparents, aunts or mom’s similar foods that were cooked when they lived back at home.

Samantha: What does a typical work-day look like for you?

Pasquale: When I walk into the pizzeria in the morning the phone is already ringing with someone calling to place an order for delivery or pick up. We then turn on all the ovens and start preparing our pizzas because they are all made fresh. We are always coming up with special pizzas and new additions to the menu to help make our pizza’s different than others!

Samantha: Pasquale's does have a unique taste to it! What helps to make Pasquale's standout from other pizza places?

Pasquale: We are the only true authentic Italian born, New York lived and culinary trained chef to use the highest imported and domestic product; that’s why you can taste the difference. We specifically cater to Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Nut Free diets, but we also make sure to meet everyone’s dietary needs.

Samantha: Being an owner and chef, I’ve got to know…what is your favorite pizza topping?

Pasquale: It really changes with the season, as we create seasonal combinations for our customers! My favorite thing to eat is our Spinach Roll. I wrap it in wax paper and eat it room temperature—it reminds me of street food in Italy!

Samantha: I’ll have to try that out! Thanks for sharing about the unique food and atmosphere that Pasquale's offers.
