Artist Name

Richard Brubaker

Corten steel

The Artist is a representation of a human figure created with the curved organic shapes that are prevalent in Richard Brubaker’s sculptures. The head of the figure is based on the shape and design of an artist’s paint palette.

About the Artist

Richard Brubaker, a long-time Rochester resident and physician on staff in Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic, was also an athlete, inventor, and artist. After his retirement, he focussed on creating sculptures from steel, his preferred medium, many of which have been installed on various sites in Rochester. The Artist is his final work, the finishing touches of which were done by fellow artist Sébastien Richer. Richard Brubaker died in October 2018 just prior to the installation of this piece at its location in front of the Rochester Art Center.
