RDA seeks Sandy Keith Downtown Impact Award nominations

ROCHESTER, Minn.—Nominations for the Sandy Keith Downtown Impact Award are being sought by the Rochester Downtown Alliance, which Keith helped found.

The Sandy Keith Downtown Impact Award is presented to a person or group whose efforts have made or are making a substantial impact on the downtown community. The goal is to recognize those who continue to demonstrate passion for urban growth and community development and encourage others to do likewise.

“In a year that has challenged cities across the world, we are pleased to close the year on a positive note and celebrate the champions of our own downtown,” said Holly Masek, RDA executive director. “We hope this award process draws well-deserved attention to the creative, resilient individuals who make up our downtown neighborhood.”

Keith was the driving force behind the genesis of the Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) in the early 2000s. To honor Sandy’s work and encourage more people to explore ways to make an impact on Downtown, the RDA created the “Sandy Keith Downtown Impact Award.” The inaugural “Sandy Keith Downtown Impact” Award was given to Sandy himself in 2017.

Another recipient to continue the legacy of Sandy Keith Award was Café Steam.

“To be a recipient of this award is a great way to look back and appreciate even more the community that cares about you. For us, it’s been an honor to not only have been a recipient of this award, but to be able to continue to work of Sandy Keith to make our downtown more vibrant and unique place.” said William Forsman, Café Steam co-owner and general manager and a 2018 Sandy Keith Award recipient.

Nominations for the 2020 Sandy Keith Downtown Impact Award are open and should be completed by 11:59 p.m. December 31, 2020.

The winner of the Sandy Keith Downtown Impact Award will be selected by a committee of RDA board members, staff, and stakeholders based on criteria and completeness of the nomination form.
