Program makes it easier—and cheaper—to park downtown through October 31

ROCHESTER, Minn.—A free parking program supported through the City of Rochester’s Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) funding launches today.

The program, which runs through the month of October, will be a way to increase economic activity for downtown businesses and decrease a perceived barrier for visiting downtown: the cost of parking.

“We still have some great weather coming our way to enjoy outdoor dining, and we’re heading into early holiday shopping season,” said Holly Masek, RDA executive director. “We hope the attraction of free parking will remind customers how fun and accessible a visit to downtown can be, and how important it is for local residents to support their local business community.”

Each customer-facing business in downtown Rochester that wishes to participate will receive a set of pre-paid parking vouchers to distribute to customers at their register. A purchase is required at the business to receive a parking voucher, which are available while supplies last and expire October 31, 2020.

This program’s voucher is good for three hours, giving visitors ample time to shop, dine, and explore downtown Rochester. The parking vouchers are accepted at any of the six municipal ramps downtown. Ramp parking is also always free after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
