FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Games on the Grass Kicks-off May 7 on the Peace Plaza

ROCHESTER, Minn. --- May 4, 2018 --- The Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) is proud to kick-off Games on the Grass Monday, May 7 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on the Peace Plaza. This free event will have different minute-to-win-it style games for prizes, which include colorful frisbees and up to 75 free hot dogs from Murph’s Hot Dog cart. Games on the Grass will feature a branded game cart in the grassy area of the Peace Plaza, which will contain various lawn games and board game pieces. There are also tables and chairs near the Peace Plaza fountain topped with a game board decal.

All games will be available for the public to use free of charge in the months of May to October. We are also proud to have Destination Medical Center (DMC) as a Co-Partner, and University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) as our Games Partner.

We created Games on the Grass because we know sometimes, life is measured by the small moments. The times that you have with friends or family while enjoying a simple activity can sometimes become some of the most memorable moments. We, along with our partners, understand that these experiences, however small, can influence how we feel about the space and place we live.

Because of this, RDA has been focused on creating passive activities for both residents and visitors. Passive activities, such as Games on the Grass, provide the opportunity to have fun and interact with others over a lunch break, in between doctor appointments, or during a break from class that many ages can relate to. These passive activities also help test concepts from the DMC Heart of the City design plan of the Peace Plaza. This testing and the insight it provides, are important pieces for shaping the understanding of how the space is used by the public.

With Games on the Grass, we hope to introduce residents and visitors to some new games and provide the opportunity to make some fun memories over the classics.
