Traditional Here Comes Santa Claus returns November 26

ROCHESTER, Minn.—Here Comes Santa Claus presented by the Rochester Downtown Alliance and Altra Federal Credit Union is a time-honored tradition that returns to its original format November 26.

“This is Rochester’s longest-running holiday tradition and continues to bring many people joy. Being able to enjoy it safely while keeping the spirit of the event alive is our top priority,” said Kanika Couchene, RDA director of events and strategic partnerships. “We thrilled to be able to bring back the magic and cheer of this event in 2021 for our community.”

The event was adapted in 2020 as a drive-thru parade to follow COVID-19 guidelines at the time.

This year from 4 to 8 p.m. November 26, Here Comes Santa Claus will return to its in-person family-friendly activities, rescuing Santa Claus from the Old City Hall rooftop, the Peace Plaza tree lighting, and a re-imagined physically distanced photo opportunity with Santa, among other holiday festivities.

The RDA is taking COVID-19 precautions based on Minnesota Department of Health and CDC guidelines to keep people, especially children, safe. Masks are encouraged in indoors venues and crowded outdoor settings. There will be hand sanitizing stations at each indoor location of the event. Physical distancing is highly recommended when possible.

While people are in downtown for Here Comes Santa Claus, Hiawatha Homes’ annual Festival of Trees is another holiday tradition anyone can enjoy. More than 80 uniquely decorated and illuminated trees will be on display in storefronts and other spaces within a walkable route throughout downtown November 22-28.
