FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Improvising Improv-ICE dates because of warm weather

ROCHESTER, Minn.—Minnesota weather is requiring Improv-ICE’s dates to be improvised with warmer-than-anticipated temperatures this week.

“Above freezing temperatures Wednesday, February 3 and Thursday, February 4 may feel good to us but are not favorable for keeping our ice sculptures from melting,” said Monika Kopet, Rochester Downtown Alliance director of events & strategic partnerships. “That’s why we are improvising—in true Improv-ICE fashion—and starting the winter experience Saturday, February 6 evening when conditions are ideal.”

By Saturday, February 6, the ice sculptures will be completed and viewable for the public in Peace Plaza. That evening around sunset to 10 p.m., the public will get the full effect of illuminated ice sculptures and pre-recorded music each night through February 14.

The public will be able to view the Improv-ICE partner ice sculptures, community sculpture, Wall of ICE, and Together Community Portrait, beginning February 6 and ending February 14, weather permitting. The Improv-ICE photo contest will follow those dates for the community to capture photos of the ice sculptures, ice curtain, or Together letters for a chance to win one of six $25 gift cards to a downtown business. Find more details on the Improv-ICE photo contest here

The Improv-ICE Buy a Meal, Give a Meal campaign will follow suit, with transactions recorded at participating restaurants from dining in, getting take-out, or purchasing a gift card during February 6-14 will be tallied and a match of one meal given to Channel One Regional Food Bank. Find a list of participating restaurants in the Buy a Meal, Give a Meal restaurant campaign blog here

Improv-ICE, an adaption of SocialICE, is February 6-14, 2021, weather permitting. More details can be found at DowntownRochesterMN.com/Improv-ICE
