Rochester, Minn. --- April, 10, 2017
The Rochester Downtown Alliance’s (RDA) Downtown Cultural Initiative (DCI) Committee is seeking applicants for the stART-up Grant where awarded applicants can receive up to $3,000 in funding towards first-time events held in downtown Rochester.
The RDA will distribute a total of up to $10,000 to selected events this year. Applicants can apply for up to $3,000 in grant funds. The stART-up grant application window opened April 1 and will remain open until May 16, 2017. More information and an online application can be found at DowntownRochesterMN.com.
In 2016, the Rochester City Jazz Festival - a family-friendly event - received a $3,000 grant. Organized by local musician John Sievers, the Rochester City Jazz Festival featured local, regional, and nationally recognized jazz performers.
The RDA is pleased to again partner with the 2nd Annual Rochester City Jazz Fest on August 13, 2017 at the Rochester Civic Theatre with another $3,000 grant and event mentorship assistance.
“I am extremely grateful that the RDA took the effort to support local grass roots artists in an attempt to help nurture a diverse cultural experience in the heart of our city,” said Sievers on receiving his 2016 grant.
“Cultural events like the Rochester City Jazz Festival are essential to creating a healthy and happy community, and the RDA should be proud to have helped sponsor such events. I hope the RDA continues to support this kind of life-giving, art-oriented opportunity in the future,” he said.
The RDA recognizes the value of supporting programming and events from others in the community and is proud to support events like the Rochester City Jazz Festival because new and diverse events help create a more vibrant downtown for all to enjoy.
Through the stART-up Grant, the RDA hopes to see the development of more successful and sustainable events in the years to come.
