Small Business Saturday: A big deal to small businesses

ROCHESTER, Minn.—Small Business Saturday November 27 is a day to champion the small businesses that make downtown Rochester a unique experience.

“Our small businesses are the heart of downtown Rochester, and what makes this neighborhood so memorable and appealing” said Holly Masek, RDA executive director. “And with shops and restaurants all in a small, walkable area, it’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday leading into the holiday season.”

Seventeen downtown Rochester businesses have currently opted in to participate in Small Business Saturday within the 44-block special service district and the list of businesses continues to grow.

Small Business Saturday creates jobs, boosts the economy, and preserves neighborhoods in downtown Rochester and across the country. Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday serves as the ceremonial kickoff to the holiday shopping season for small businesses across the United States.

In 2020, the 11th annual nationwide Small Business Saturday hit a record high with an estimated $19.8 billion in reported spending, according to an American Express consumer insights survey.

In addition to shopping and dining locally on Small Business Saturday, people can enjoy Hiawatha Homes’ Festival of Trees that will display more than 80 uniquely decorated and illuminated trees in various storefronts and spaces throughout downtown.

Find ways to support participating downtown Rochester businesses at DowntownRochesterMN.com/SBS and follow Downtown Rochester, MN on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
