FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Join in the magic of Here Comes Santa Claus November 26

ROCHESTER, Minn.—Better watch out (and no need to pout because of a COVID-19 cancellation): Santa Claus is comin’ to downtown Rochester for Here Comes Santa Claus presented by Altra Federal Credit Union.

After being adapted from its traditional version to a drive-thru experience in 2020 amid the pandemic, Here Comes Santa Claus returns for the following festivities throughout downtown Rochester November 26:

Schedule of events:

  • Santa’s Magical Workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. inside Chateau Theatre will include a craft by Neon Green Studio’s Pop Up Art Cart, music by the Rochester Symphony, a 5 p.m. story time with Mrs. Claus, cookies, and hot cocoa.
  • Rochester Trolley and Tour Company rides from 4 to 6 p.m. around downtown to get from one destination to another and to view a couple Hiawatha Homes Festival of Trees locations with illuminated and decorated trees.
  • Altra Federal Credit Union Drive for the Kids 4 to 8 p.m. in Peace Plaza will be an opportunity for people to give back this holiday season. Here Comes Santa Claus presenting partner Altra Federal Credit Union is hosting an opportunity for people to donate new or gently used blankets, stuffed animals, art supplies, and/or sports items to be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester. There will be a decorated red truck near the Peace Plaza tree for people to place the donated items.
  • Santa’s rescue from atop Old City Hall at 6 p.m. is the hallmark of this downtown event. The Rochester Fire Department will be onsite to help Santa Claus get safely to the ground from the roof of Residences of Old City Hall. Rochester Mayor Kim Norton and Mrs. Claus will greet him on the ground.
  • Following the rescue, attendees are welcome to walk behind the fire truck carrying Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Mayor to Peace Plaza, where they will count down to the Peace Plaza tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.
  • A physically distanced photo opportunity with Santa and caroling by the Rochester Symphony Chorale will be outside in Peace Plaza from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Cookies and hot cocoa will also be available inside Chateau Theatre.

The following COVID-19 precautions are being taken to keep Here Comes Santa Claus attendees, especially children, safe:

  • Masks are encouraged in indoors venues and crowded outdoor settings.
  • There will be hand sanitizing stations at each indoor location of the event.
  • Physical distancing is highly recommended when possible.

Thanks to Altra Federal Credit Union, Olmsted Medical Center, T-Mobile, the Rochester Trolley and Tour Company, the Rochester Symphony, and Metronet for partnering with the Rochester Downtown Alliance on this event.
