Shining a Light on Townsquare Media, a 2019 Thursdays Downtown Partner

Without support from community-minded partners like the Townsquare MediaThursdays Downtown would not be as successful as it is! The Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) is appreciative of its partnership and wants to shine the spotlight on them! Let's learn a little more about the organization from Troy Dunken, Townsquare Media's assistant operations manager and one of KROC's on-air morning personality!

Katie: Troy, thanks for sitting down with me and chatting about Townsquare Media! Tell us about the organization and how long it’s been a part of the Rochester community.

Troy: News-Talk 1340 KROC-AM & 96.9 FM was Rochester’s first radio station, launching more than 80 years ago. Since then, we’ve grown to include Rochester favorites like 106.9 KROC, Quick Country 96.5, Y-105FM, Z-Rock 107.7, and our newest station, 103.9 The Doc.

Katie: What excites Townsquare Media about the community or why is the organization involved in community events?

Troy: Townsquare is unique to a lot of radio companies in that its focus is on local personalities creating local content. People come to our radio stations, websites, and mobile apps for information on area events and happenings. Our team has complete freedom to talk and write about whatever they think is important in our community and our personalities love getting together with everyone at all of the various events throughout the year.

Katie: Why does the organization partner with the RDA for Thursdays Downtown?

Troy: The RDA is a vital resource that does a great job of bringing the community together with amazing events throughout the year. Downtown businesses are fortunate to have such a great ally.

Katie: Alright, one final fun question: What has been the oddest request made on-air?

Troy: We've had listeners request to get married on the radio, which we happily helped with. But the strangest was one man that actually wanted us to orchestrate his divorce on-air; we politely declined that request.
