Previewing "The Wizard of Oz": Movies in the Park August 14

Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. Nope, because with Movies in the Park presented by Altra Federal Credit Union, you will be swept away for a showing of "The Wizard of Oz" August 14! Just like the Emerald City, the enchanting Central Park will be gleaming with the following themed activities and food to enjoy. So, to the Emerald City (aka downtown Rochester), as fast as lightning!

About "The Wizard of Oz"

After a tornado rips through her home state of Kansas, Dorothy Gale has her world turned upside down and she and her dog, Toto, are transported to an alternate one. Here, the men who work on her aunt and uncle's farm—Hunk, Hickory, and Zeke—become a scarecrow, tin man, and a lion. And her evil neighbor, Elmira Gulch, turns into the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy must enlist her friends' help to get her to the Emerald City, where the Wizard of Oz is someone who can help get her home, and they all realize important lessons along the way. "The Wizard of Oz" is rated G for general audience.

Over the rainbow of fun activities

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! While Movies in the Park won't have these, it will feature crafts, painting, and tornadoes, oh yay! The free Neon Green Studio Pop-Up Art Cart will be there with a tornado-themed craft. A perfect pairing is ABC 6 News meteorologist Chris Kuball to explain how tornadoes work and their history with Rochester. And what "Wizard of Oz" themed event would be complete without poppies! The first 15 people to RSVP here will get to take part in Canvas & Chardonnay's free poppy painting. Curses! Curses! We almost forgot the photo booth opp, for which you could be Dorothy or stand next to your favorite character. All themed activities start at 7:30 p.m.

The Lollipop Guild of food and beverage vendors

Attractive to the eye and soothing to the smell, Café Steam's themed coffee drink and Carroll's Corn popcorn will keep you satisfied before and during the movie. Follow the yellow brick road to get some of the yellow stuff: freshly popped popcorn from Carroll's Corn! Get a Movies in the Park branded bucket and go back for more with a $5 refill.

The coveted ruby slippers of Movies in the Park: a reserved space

Now that we've enticed you with all the Movies in the Park food, fun, and festivities, we'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too (provided they are socialized and on a leash) to come! But first, you must prove yourselves worthy by performing a very small task: reserve your space to Movies in the Park here.
