First Came Kurt. Then Came the RedBall Rochester
RedBall Project artist Kurt Perschke will visit Rochester to gain insight into the community that will host his world-renowned art instaliation.
ROCHESTER, Minn. --- October 29, 2014---- Kurt Perschke, sculpture, video, collage, and public space artist, will be visiting Rochester from November 2 – 9 in preparation for his traveling art project named the RedBall Project, which is set for installation fall 2015.
Perschke will use his time in Rochester to gain insight and perspective on the buildings, the spaces, and the people that make up the community.
In addition to using this time for planning the installation, the Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) will be holding two community meetings – Wednesday, November 5th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Söntés, and Thursday, November 6th from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the Rochester Art Center– to introduce Perschke to the community and provide details about the project.
“I am incredibly excited to welcome Kurt and the Redball Project to Rochester,” says Jenna Bowman, RDA Executive Director. “Kurt is passionate about the RedBall, but more importantly about the street dialogue that happens in the community hosting it. The Redball Project is an opportunity for the RDA to activate the river and support public art. I invite members of the community to get involved with this exciting opportunity.”
After recalling an interaction with Rochester Art Center Executive Director Shannon Fitzgerald, Perschke comments on bringing the RedBall Project to Rochester and back to the US.
“I know Shannon Fitzgerald from our time in St. Louis where the RedBall Project began,” he said. “So when she reached out to me about bringing RedBall to Rochester and doing something with her at the Art Center I was intrigued. The work can have a very [engaging] response [in] a small city, and as it hasn’t been to the States in many years I’m curious to see what my site visit discovers, there are always surprises.”
