A Q&A with Goonie's Mark Klampe
5/31/2007Q: What would encourage someone to come to your pub/restaurant or to catch a show upstairs?
A: We have a very comfortable, friendly pub & restaurant located in a great historic building and we’re Rochester’s only comedy club.
We’re not a chain. You can’t find us anywhere else. We have the flavor of the town.
Q: What days of the week do you have performances?
A: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and 10:00pm
Q: Anything special you’d like a patron to know?
A: We have an ‘Open Mic’ night every Thursday at 7:30. Most times we have headliners that come in a day early to work on their show. You can try out your comedy act or cheer on others.
We’re smoke free and handicap accessible with the elevator.
Q: What’s the best way to get here on foot from downtown?
A: We’re on Second Street SW, 1/2 block off Broadway between Red Lobster and Eagle Drug.
Q: Where should a person park?
A: Start with the Radisson ramp or the Third Street ramp. But we’re not far from any street or ramp, and parking is free after 5pm and on weekends.
Q: What is one particular thing about Goonie’s Comedy Club you want people to know?
A: We have nationally touring comedians. The same ones you’ll see in the Twin Cities.
Q: Do you have discounts or specials?
A: People age 18 and up can come and see the early comedy show. The late show is age 21 and up.
We can arrange private shows and parties on the spur of the moment with dinner & show.
We provide daily box lunches for delivery. We also have express lunches (a quick sandwich) for when you only have a half hour.
Q: What do you have that can’t be found everywhere?
A: We have an Armed Forces wall, dedicated to those who have served in the military. Also, if you have a military ID (former or current), you get free admission to the comedy club.
Q: What do you provide to the community of Rochester?
A: Great food, drink and local entertainment – specifically the comedy club.
Q: What is one interesting fact about McGoon’s that more people should know?
A: What’s in a name? Klampe’s grandfather, Howard, ran the McGoon Taxi service in Rochester during the 1920s. His grandmother’s name was Marian, but everyone called her Goonie.
Q: How long have McGoon’s and Goonie’s been in Rochester?
A: The upstairs Comedy Club opened in January 2006, and the pub & restaurant on street level opened in February 2006.
