A Q&A with Ken Nuss of Victoria's
5/31/2007Q: What would encourage someone to dine at Victoria’s?
A: We give you a fine Italian dining experience. Authentic Italian. All meals are prepared in one pan and each meal is prepared individually. We know it’s important for you to get your meal while it’s still hot.
Q: Anything special you’d like a patron to know?
A: We serve only gluten-free items and we’re very clean. The whole place will hold just over 300 diners. There’s no turn-over in the kitchen. So, yes the food will be that good every time.
Q: What’s the best way to get to Victoria’s on foot from downtown?
A: We’re a little north on 1st Avenue SW; next to the Kahler. Across the street from Methodist Hospital and Wells Fargo Bank.
Q: Where should a person park?
A: Park east across the street in the public lot. Parking in the lot and on the street is free after 5pm and on weekends.
Q: What’s your favorite seat in the house?
A: One of the booths on the south wall in the San Marcos Square dining room.
Q: What is one particular thing you want people to know about Victoria’s?
A: Our focus is on a quality food experience. We’re not portion-controlled, we don’t use frozen foods. All our chicken is fresh. We use high quality Provimi veal and special Stanislaus canned tomatoes – not concentrate. We buy only wild jumbo Gulf shrimp – strictly quality.
Q: Do you have discounts or specials?
A: We have daily specials, 7 days a week, lunch and dinner. We also have special days: Mothers Day, New Years Eve, Valentines Day. And a fish & seafood special during Lent.
Q: What are some things Victoria’s has that can’t be found everywhere?
A: It’s a family run restaurant – the Victoria family – who all live in Rochester. Two Victoria’s family head chefs and a cousin – all family.
Our signature item is the par-baked rolls that we give you gratis at the beginning of every dining experience. You also have extra virgin oil and fresh parmesan cheese for the bread.
Q: What do you provide to the community of Rochester?
A: We gear our business to the repeat customer – those who live and work in Rochester. Our menu pricing is also geared to the repeat customer. We advertise locally.
We remain in the top of peoples’ minds because of word of mouth. The food is King. Once you come into Vic’s, you’ll be back.
Q: What is one interesting fact about Victoria’s that more people should know?
A: We have Victoria’s Express on the skyway. Open from 10am to 2pm, 5 days a week serving salads, sandwiches, pizzas, calzones, soup and hot dishes to go.
Q: How long has Victoria’s been in Rochester?
A: We opened for business in 1997 – Ken worked in Green Bay as a teacher for 30 years. We’ve been at our present location since 2002. The first five years we were at 2nd street. We bought and remodeled the former Greenhouse business.
