Labor Day Weekend Events
The Minnesota Director of POW/MIA, David Gustafson, will be in Rochester September 6th to assist in a short dedication of the Prisoner of War/ Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Bench that was recently installed at the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial in Rochester. They will also to remember National POW/MIA Day, the third Friday in September, by having Army Recruiter, James Doolittle, perform the POW/MIA ceremony.
This program will also include the dedication of the last 546 pavers that were ordered within the past two years and are now in place.
The public is encouraged to attend this solemn occasion Labor Day, Monday, September 6, at 11:30 at the POW/MIA bench on the east side of the Memorial near the two cannons.
Following the program there will be a fund raiser for the SE Minnesota Honor Flight at VFW Post 1215, 16 6th St SW.
Brats, Hot Dogs, sweet corn and chips will be served from noon to 4:00 PM for $3.00. Les Fields and the Turkey River All Stars will be performing from 12:30 to 2:30.
The public is requested to attend as all proceeds will go toward sending members of the “Greatest Generation”, our World War Two veterans, to Washington DC to see their Memorial with all their expenses paid.
