The new Rochester Art Center opened in early May, 2004. It is the latest addition to the downtown Rochester cultural campus, which includes the Mayo Civic Center, Rochester Civic Music, the Rochester Civic Theatre and the Rochester Public Library. Mayo Park and the Zumbro River border the new Art Center to the east and the south, providing access to parkland and the river-walk pathways.
The new Center brings art outside with the proposed Zumbro Gardens, a terraced park and sculpture lawn stepping down to the waters edge. Permanent collection includes works by such artists as Alexander Calder, Jack Beal, Alex Katz, Louis Nevelson, Philip Pearlstein, Salvador Dali and George Sugarman.
Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10am-5pm., Thurs. 10am-9pm., Sun. 12-5pm, Mon. closed. Admission: Adults $3, Seniors $2, Members, students with valid ID & children under 12 Free, Every Thurs. Free.
