PrideFest and the Rochester Downtown Alliance announce return of PrideFest 2016 to the Peace Plaza
ROCHESTER, Minn. --- May 18, 2016 --- The Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) and Gay Lesbian Community Services of Southeast Minnesota (GLCS), organizers of PrideFest, are pleased to announce that PrideFest 2016 will take place in the Peace Plaza on Sunday, July 17, 2016.
“We are happy to have the opportunity to work with PrideFest to find a positive and mutually beneficial solution for both organizations,” Jenna Bowman, RDA Executive Director, said. “We appreciate the leadership of PrideFest and their supporters in making it possible to keep PrideFest in the heart of the city,” she said.
PrideFest co-chair Gale Julius agrees. “Working together with the RDA and community on this was a critical decision; it sent a signal that change was possible and that people’s concerns mattered,” she said.
Both Julius and Bowman recognize the importance of organizational collaboration and the many resources required to host community focused events. “Our LGBT and allied community are so energized by the forward progress,” Julius said.
PrideFest organizers are seeking event sponsors and asking the community to consider providing donations to sustain this and future years of the event.
“We are seeing the community, city, and businesses get involved in ways they haven’t before,” Julius said. “We hope to keep the momentum going with volunteers and financial support of this very important non-profit 501(c)3 organization, GLCS (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Services), and we are grateful for the partnership with RDA to help make this happen.”
