PlaceMakers | Rochester Prototyping Festival selections made

Rochester, Minn. --- July 7, 2016 --- PlaceMakers partners Destination Medical Center (DMC), Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA), and Rochester Art Center (RAC) announced the selections for the first-ever PlaceMakers | Rochester Prototyping Festival today during Thursdays on First & 3rd.

Of the 23 submitted prototyping proposals – submitted during an open call for proposals in May and June –, 16 were chosen to participate in this year’s prototyping festival, which will be held September 15 – 17, 2016. PlaceMakers received nearly twice the number of applicants originally anticipated.

The accepted proposals are (in no particular order):

  • Artscaping the Bikeway
  • Creative Crosswalks
  • Sit next to me, Sue!
  • Rocker Talker (People’s Choice Winner)
  • Kids on the Block
  • Multilingual Pedestrian Signage
  • Inner Ear ECHO
  • Bike Corral
  • Chime In
  • The Town Cube
  • Destination Inner Peace
  • Light Rail
  • Living Wall
  • Info Alley
  • Recharging Wastewater
  • SWAMP

The 16 accepted proposals above will now participate in Pitch Night held Tuesday, July 19 from 7 – 9 pm at the Rochester Art Center. Pitch Night will be a special opportunity to meet the prototyping teams for the 2016 PlaceMakers | Rochester Prototyping Festival.

In this fast-paced “pitch style” program, attendees will learn more about the inspiration behind each prototype and its interpretation of Health and the Built Environment an engage directly with the makers about their projects.  “Makers” are comprised of individuals and team of close to 20 people – some of whom have never met before this project.
