Downtown Development Update
Development is taking place downtown. Mayo continues to grow and expand its campus. The Minnesota Partnership for Biotechnology and Medical Genomics is now fully-operational and resides in an expandable Stabile Building. The University of Minnesota-Rochester's downtown campus has been established in the completely refurbished Galleria, now called University Square. The Minnesota BioBusiness Center is about to commence construction. All of these are significant generators of economic activity. Nearly 50,000 people come downtown each day to live, work, or consume goods and services.
Development of the Plaza will provide public space for community programming. New restaurants, Sontes and Chester's have been, or are being, located. McGoon's Comedy Club, ZPizza, and a soon-to-be opened food court in the First Avenue Suites add dimension to the downtown experience as well. Three proposed development projects have the potential for adding 300,000 square feet of retail/office space, as well as new housing.
More developments are happening every day. Make sure you check back regularly for the latest information.
